Drums speak the language of vibration that creates a unity of heart. One of our most popular drums is styled after the African Ashiko. "Ashiko" means freedom in Nigerian, and we feel that freedom is what they bring - freedom to let the Spirit move, to reclaim the natural rhythm of the soul and to allow joy into our lives.

INSTANT SLIDE TUNING

Instant Slide Tuning. By simply sliding the beads, on the ashikos, down you can quickly change the sound and pitch of your drum. On the frame drums, by simply sliding the beads out you get tremendous tone range.

CUSTOM ORDERS

We make custom drums with your choice of woods and shapes. Choose from Arkansas Oak, Ash, Birch, Cherry, Walnut, Cedar and Pine.

DRUM BAGS

We offer custom-fit drum bags in blue denim and black or burgundy cordura (pack cloth). They are padded to protect the drum head. The cordura are water resistant.

ABOUT THE DRUM MAKER

Doug Powell is a Master Drum Maker who has been refining his art of drum making for over fifteen years. His passion for making drums began as an expression of his spiritual journey. Through involvement in a circle of spiritually dedicated men in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Doug began drumming. He discovered a passionate love for drums. In this process his excitement about drums led him to explore the many cultures that honor the drum.

16" frame drum.
Maple frame with goat hide this little drum has a tremendous tuning range. Comes with either a Bodhran tipper or knob type beater. Please let us know which you prefer. $175.00

Cherry walnut ashiko. A 13 inch head and 26 inch height give this drum a huge sound.
Hided with a 'hair on' goat hide gives it that rich djembe-like sound. This drum is solid cherry with four walnut stripes that are framed with birch pin stripes. With 16 ‘slide tuners’ it offers an awesome sound and is quite beautiful as well. $425.00 includes a strap. Shipping and carry case are extra.

This is a laminated birch with walnut stripes ashiko. Weighing only 7 pounds this is a "take anywhere" drum with a tremendous sound range.

Walnut djembe
This solid walnut djembe with a 'hair on' goat hide sonds incredible. I have been playing this drum a while and love it. I will let it go at a reduced price because the shell was built in the mid 90’s and I recently re-headed it. 13 X 24 inch drum with traditional Mali weave lacing. Reduced $85.00 now, $410.00 with a strap.

Dark djembe.
This is a laminated birch djembe with a dark walnut stain. The unique designs are from my sanding through the laminations to expose other layers and different grain structure. A 13 X 24 inch drum with traditional Mali weave tuning this drum weighs only 10 pounds. A light drum with a BIG voice! $375.00 with strap

This drum has dramatic tone range with the 'instant slide tuning'. Weighing only a little over 2 pounds this drum has a big sound in a light weight body. Includes a hand turned bodhran tipper or Native American beater. $190.00
