Living with Yaël, Doug and ShannaPra at Circle of Light are their wonderful animal companions. Christos and Angel are Yael and Doug's two Pomeranians (their children). Christos follows Yael everywhere, and Angel is never seen far from Doug. Christos and Angel listen attentively during workshop... And then comes the cat family... Magic Cat; Magic's Love (Lovie), his SoulMate; and their sister, Sweetheart (Sweetie) -- Shanna's kitty -- all different types of beautiful RagDoll cats -- now four years old (born July 24, 2003).

For many years, Yael Powell who is a universal communicator, has been receiving messages from her special companion, Magic Cat. As many of you know, Magic is an animal Master and in this compilation of his messages, brings us insights about the Web of Life, Sacred Sexuality through the eyes of a cat, our "loopy" minds, death, the difference between cats hunting and humans eating meat, and much more! The following is a quote from one of Magic's twenty-four profound messages. "An animal lives in the arms of God. We take our nourishment from the Mother -- for while we cherish our physical food, it is the food of our heart that keeps us connected. We are woven into the body of life and we know that we are not separate from it. Thus every movement is sacred. Every breath is God breathing. Every motion, every lick and every sigh is the orchestration of a grand dance -- a dance in which we know ourselves as the grand dancer and we know ourselves as the movement." Magic Cat

Yael's Gift for Communication Yaël's first experience with communication was in a garden, when she was suddenly lifted, surrounded with light and able to experience the living spirit of each and every plant. She believes that because of their direct connection to God, nature and animals provide humanity with the most accessible path to experiencing the wholeness of life. Yaël's first communication exchange with an animal directly was through Maya, their beloved Pomeranian at the time that she "passed over" from this life. It was a joy filled and amazing time in which Yaël and Doug learned that Maya would be coming back to them. Maya explained "life on the other side," the animals' perspective and gave them the time and place of her return. Now she is back within Circle of Light as Angel. Maya's story is below, as well as an introduction to the incredible Magic Cat and a link to some of his messages.

Maya's Story (as told by Yaël)     In 1991, Maya came to live with us. From the moment I heard about her I knew that she was our dog. This feeling was so strong that I even broke a promise to Doug. We had been discussing getting a dog. I really wanted one but Doug was not so sure. He left to go visit his family and asked me to promise I would not get a dog while he was gone. He wanted to continue discussing it. But, as much as I wanted to honor my promise, when I heard about Maya I knew I had to get her immediately or she would be gone by the time Doug returned. Consequently, on his return, Doug was greeted by a little red Pomeranian!     After some initial resistance (6 months of it!) Doug and Maya bonded. Then it was as if I might as well have been invisible! As their relationship grew, Doug told people that Maya had opened his heart in ways he could not have imagined. Yael and her Christos are never apart     Then, when Maya was 5 years old, she was killed. It happened in an unusual and unexpected way and we were devastated. It is still hard to think about that day. That night, after we buried her, Doug and I lay on the bed holding each other and sobbing. In the midst of my tears, I heard Maya barking! It was so loud and so clear that I stopped Doug and said, excitedly, "I hear her! She's here!" I could feel her presence as if she was sitting on the bed. I felt that she was reassuring us and I felt very strongly that she had a message.     What followed was an amazing series of meditations during which Maya was clearly present. She explained her condition, where she was, why she had died. And, she asked us if we wanted her to come back to us. At first we said things like, "whatever is best for you," but we soon realized we didn't mean it. We wanted her back very much, and quickly.     Maya agreed to return. At first we thought we would breed our other Pomeranian, Christos and she could come as one of the puppies. We even began preparations. Then Maya said no. She wanted to come through a dog owned by the breeder we had gotten her from. She would be a female again. She told us which litter and said there could be no mistake. When the litter came there was only one female. Doug with his devoted Angel     When we brought her back home, all of our animals immediately recognized her. She had said she had always been with us so the animals had been seeing her all along. Sure enough, our cats, who have always gotten unbelievably upset about any new animal, never even moved when she entered. She went to each cat and touched noses in greeting. They all accepted her. They knew her, it was obvious. Then she went to Christos, informed him on no uncertain terms that although she was temporarily tiny, she was still alpha dog. We laughed seeing a one pound puppy "downing" a grown male dog. Yes, our Maya was back! We named her Angel Maya. She and Christos are still the delight of our lives. And, the journey (or perhaps the name angel?) has softened Maya and she even pays attention to me as well as to Doug.

Magic Cat's Story     Magic Cat came to Yaël and Doug in 1987 just after they had celebrated a "public" (second) wedding for family and friends. Yaël had received a cat as a present (her third cat), and she was waiting to see its personality and whether or not it would turn out to be her special "magic cat" for whom she had prayed. One day she opened the door to outside and there was a cat. Another cat. He was about 6 months old and howling. Doug immediately said "no!" Four cats was too many cats; it was craziness. They tried not to feed him but he didn"t go away and just kept howling. He kept Yaël awake at night so they put him in the shed or in the car in the evening. By the third day, she fed him. [You have to understand that to Yaël, next to Doug, her animals are the most important thing in her life. They are always fed about half her dinner before she takes a bite herself!] Fed and happy, he came in onto the bed where Yaël spends most of her day, settled near her head and they "fell in love."     Magic Cat turned out to have some eccentricities, one of which was waking Yaël in the morning by jumping up and clinging with all fours to the screen door by his claws and smacking his body against the door until someone let him in. Magic is still very strong minded. When Yaël meditates in the evenings, she and Doug sit at a large desk in the dining room in her special sitting chair, so that she can write the Messages. The moment Yaël begins heading for the desk, Magic jumps up on it and literally SITS on the notebook where she writes - right in the middle of it. He feels the vibration coming from that notebook, and he cannot be deterred. They have tried many things to get Magic Cat OFF the notebook (it is difficult to write with him sitting in the middle of it, and he IS a very large cat!) - such as opening another notebook and trying to entice him onto it - but Magic knows! He has to be pushed aside each night to make space for words.     In fall 2001 one evening Magic could not be eased off the Message notebook. He pressed his furry forehead against Yaël's third eye, and a marvelous Message came forth from this special cat about the Web of Life. This inaugurated a whole series of Messages, not only from Magic but from Christos and Angel, the animal emissaries, as well. Magic Cat's beautiful Messages are now available in his book (see above). Magic, The Notebook, Yaël -- no more writing today...

Yaël Speaks:     I believe that my communication with animals and with nature is a natural result of a consistent practice of meditation. It is something that everyone can accomplish by truly stilling the mind and opening the heart. As meditation quiets the mind, it gives the opportunity to see and hear other things besides our internal dialogue. Then we can hear the communication with all life. I believe that all of the living, glorious conscious universe is there for any who decide to listen. However, listening takes practice and dedication. Like all humans, I am still practicing. I still struggle with my "programming" too, sometimes assuming these things can't be true until proven, even while my whole being is telling me it is true!     As this transformation moves forward, it will be important to realize that we share the experience. We share our lives with an array of conscious beings who are waiting to be acknowledged. Animals, nature, every part of this "wholeness" is ready to assist and enlighten us.

A wonderful animal story: On one occasion I was talking to a friend by the side of a busy road, and as I was listening to her, I saw a squirrel run across the street and roll under a car, having gotten hit. He lay motionless, so I told my friend I have to go, walked across the street and stopped a van from running over the poor guy, picked him up and walked 10 minutes to a vet. He twitched once, but otherwise, for the whole time, just looked up at me, staring. I thought he was paralyzed. I asked the vet when I got there if they could euthanize him because I worried he was suffering. The vet came out with a box and asked me to put him in there and they'd be right back to get him. I was then alone with him, closed my eyes, did a prayer and asked God to please help him. Then I went to put him in the box and presto! He jumps on all fours in the box. I stand, look down, and say something like 'you had me worried little fella', I think I reached down and petted him again. At this point, he jumps out, runs off around the building. I was stunned... he comes back near me, about 10 feet away for about 15 seconds, like as if to say 'thanks', and at the same time I had the sense he was amazed himself in some way.. then took off. The story is not done, you might not believe this (actually, I think you will), but I swear it's true. A week later, I was near the same vet office and thought 'I wonder if he's still around'. About a block or two away, I went into a building still wondering about him, said hi to a woman there, and at that moment, 10 seconds or so into the building, we both hear a 'patter patter' at the door (like someone knocking softly and fast), and she just says something like 'someone must be knocking'. I hadn't told her about the squirrel yet, she has no idea what happened a week before... she comes back in and says 'someone is knocking for you'. I come outside, sure enough, some 20 feet away is a squirrel running off on business. He actually came up to the door, apparently recognizing me, and letting me know he's there, and thanking me again or something. Wow. Remembering this inspires me. That is one of my most profound experiences. I love nature, I miss connecting with it.. Pierre Q. A Sharing from a Dear Friend: An interesting thing happened once when I was having a walk with my dog, Cin Cin, some years ago. We were doing our usual round, because Cin Cin refuses to change it, when she suddenly stopped to sniff a piece of paper on the street. Now, I don't usually pick up any waste-paper in the streets, but I just couldn't pull my dog away from it. So I turned back and collected it. It was a red paper heart and on the other side, inside a small circle, I read these words: Open your heart, don't be afraid, I will be with you. This paper heart has helped me go through all these years. I still have it in my purse.
